The University of Hong Kong gets Global Recognition
for enhancing Exercise is Medicine on Campus
The University of Hong Kong was not only the first university in Asia to be recognized by the American College of Sports Medicine in the USA with the Silver Level Award for Exercise is Medicine on Campus, but now also the FIRST to achieve a Gold Level Award. Exercise is Medicine on Campus is a global initiative calling upon universities and colleges to become engaged in the promotion of physical activity as a vital sign of health; the EIM Solution.
The Gold award establishes physical activity as a vital sign within the health care system and link health care professionals to fitness professionals to provide a referral system for appropriate exercise prescription. The award also validates the efforts made to encourage more staff and students to obtain the healthy benefits of a regularly active lifestyle through multiple promotional activities including provision of suitable recreational opportunities, access to a range of recreational equipment/facilities, and the combined encouraging support of both medical staff during patient consultations as well as promotional talks/material by the University Health Services and Centre for Sports and Exercise staff.
The University of Hong Kong is fortunate to be led by a president and senior management team who not only support this important global movement, but truly recognize the value and benefits that healthy and active lifestyles can have on the well-being and productivity of all staff, students and stakeholders within our community.
